Saina is upcoming Hindi language biographical sports film directed by Amole Gupte and produced by T series. Parineeti Chopra plays the role of the badminton star. I felt she couldn’t do justice to the calm and composed nature of Saina Nehwal as the actress is comfortable doing bubbly characters.
It is very evident that the makeup and costume department has worked too hard to achieve the look of Saina as the mole looked very fake on Parineeti. Even the short hair do in the first part of the movie doesn’t suit Chopra and appear as a wig to the audience. Parineeti fails to touch my heart strings as she takes us through the ups downs of the player’s life.
The performances that stood out for me in the trailer are Meghna Malik as Usha Rani Nehwal. The actress has effortlessly managed to portray the strong and ambitious mother who has done everything that is humanly possible to make her daughter a successful badminton player. In later half of the trailer we see the mother’s transformation from an ambitious mother to a supportive one. Manav Kaul as Pullela Gopichand is very convincing by the first looks of it. We have to wait and see how it pans out with the release of the film.
