Surekha Sikri was a well known actress in all three mediums namely Theatre, Television and Bollywood. She was so into the game of acting right from the very start. She made sure that the audience remembers her for every role she played. The screen space of the character didn’t matter to Surekha jii.
Though she saw many ups and downs in her personal and professional life but she never gave up, she always wanted to continue working until her last breath. Age was just number and she never made old age the reason to withdraw from her career front.
The actress had proved her range as an actor with films like kissa khursi ka, Tamas, Mammo, Hari Bhari, Zubeida and many more. I want to talk about two specific projects Balika Vadhu and Badhai Ho. In both these movies the actress played Dadi. In the television show Balika Vadhu the grandmother was strict initially then transformed into a loving and supporting Dadi later in the show. Badhai ho is my favorite movie for a number of reasons like the story, casting. Surekha Sikri did a great job as Dadi who supports her bahu when she is looked down upon for having a third child even after having two full grown boys already existing in the family. For me Dadi was the hero of the movie right from the character arc, the dressing, the body language, dialogues etc.
Surekha Sikri jii had a life full of colors of joy, sadness, brilliance, strength, skill and adaptability etc that we can honour and remember her as the most Charismatic pillars of Television as well as Bollywood.
