Celebrity culture is defined as a high volume perpetuation of celebrity’s personal lives on a global scale. It inherently tied to consumer interests where celebrities transform their fame to become brands themselves.
The sole reason of someone wanting to lead a life of a celebrity is to earn large amount of money and enjoy the name and fame that comes along with it. Instagram and Twitter has formed a bridge that has reduced the gap between these famous people and the common man.
Image building is a weapon used by these public figures to win over fan following who start treating them as Demi gods. Things turn into a negative side effect for celebrity culture when young minds follow the star blindly; harming self in long turn without thinking that whatever these hero heroines are doing is limited to the big screen.
In Covid times the celebrities have gotten the chance to give their fans a sneak peek into their personal as well as professional life through these mediums. In these hard times it is very difficult but crucial for these famous personalities to keep themselves relevant amidst the public or they can actually lose the earned popularity in these years. There are certain self made celebrities like Sushant Singh Rajput, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, and Rajkumar Rao among others who have genuinely worked hard for what they have achieved in their career span is incredible and worth appreciating. There are celebrities who have used their popularity in setting up charities like Priyanka Chopra Jonas, Anushka Sharma and Virat Kohli and many more trying to help and contribute towards fighting the deadly virus.
In my opinion there is no problem with the celebrity culture provided the fans have the discretion between what is real and what is fake. I also believe it is wonderful to love and respect the celebrities for the type of films they do or play various kinds of roles but one should also respect the soldiers of our armed forces as they selflessly sacrifice their life in order to save our lives on a daily basis. People in India tend to shower the love and respect to these actors and forget about the real heroes and behave rudely.
