Mismatched is “coming of age romantic drama” web series. The hype was created around Prajakta Koli stepping into the shoot mode for mismatched which is a bigger platform for a Youtube star during the promotion of the show.
The story line works as a magnet to pull the young audience towards it. It fails to keep the audience engaged all through the 6 episodes. The script starts off with concentrating on coming together of Rishi Singh Shekhawat (Rohit Suresh Saraf) and Dimple Ahuja (Prajakta Koli) but it goes haywire with all the subplots. The makers try bringing in the topic of sexual orientation and importance of discussing the same as a sub plot but it could not do anything to make the story interesting for the mass viewership it aimed at by releasing it on Netflix
As far as the performances are considered I thought Rohit was the one who held the entire script together till the end of the show. Rohit’s character very simple and has all the qualities that a woman would ever want in her would be husband. The only minus point about Rishi is he is so eager to be married. This makes Rishi seems a little unrealistic for 2020.
The chemistry between Rohit and Prajkta was very forceful as Prajkta takes a lot of effort to play Dimple as she couldn’t relate to her character. Rannvijay Singha as professor named Sidharth Sinha is a good choice as the body language portrayed by the actor was suiting the character. As an audience we remember Vidya Malavade as a strong captain in the movie “Chak de India’ so seeing her play Zeenat karim went almost unnoticed by me. Kstijee jog plays Dimple Ahuja’s mother who is very relatable Indian mother. She constantly worries that her daughter should get married first and career can take a back seat. I think Rishi and his Grandmother played by Suhasani Mulay share a similar mindset as Dimple’s mother.
In my opinion the makers should have concentrated on matchmaking of Rishi and Dimple with background of the main characters coming together in one place in order to learn coding instead of diving into many subjects.
