Corona virus brings India’s major mega movie industry to a stand- still. Uncertainty looms over the release of films and shoot of any new films. The pandemic has impacted the Hindi film industry on an unprecedented scale.
In the initial stages of the lockdown, the strong solution was to keep the technicians and daily wage workers provided for. The second concern was to figure out how theatres will function because that would determine how films get released. The third concern was projects which were already on the floor or mid way needed to be completed. Starting a new project amidst the lockdown days was a bad idea.
The shift to the OTT release from theatres is the new normal. It is the decision of the producer as they are really personal business decisions. It impacts everyone and everything associated with the project. It is a hardcore decision that changes from producer to producer. A lot of it depends on the kind of deal proposed on the table.
Watching a movie on the big screen becomes an ultimate experience but OTT is the best option for the Covid world. It is a good way to recover the investment. There is always demand for fresh content on the digital platforms.
The film industry has been majorly affected by the pandemic, whether in terms of budgets, shoots or medium of release. The mid budget films have an opportunity to opt for digital releases. Even the big names in the industry like Akshay Kumar, Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone are not able to rake in the revenue from the audiences around the world. To add to all chaos further Sushant Singh Rajput’s death mystery has doomed the future of the entertainment industry for a long term basis.
