Cinematography is the art of motion picture photography and filming either electronically by means of image sensor or chemically by means of light sensitive material such as film stock.
Camera is considered as the eyes of the audiences. Camera angles prove to be beneficial to the director when he tries to persuade the masses to support a certain mindset. It is the various types of shots, camera angles and movements that get the viewers emotionally invested into the movie. Camera is instrumental towards conveying the mood of the scene and assists the characters strike a conversation with the theatre goers.
A lot of time the DOP (Director of Photography) uses multiple camera angles and movements to express the emotional/dramatic quotient in the scenes as well as the characters. The Dolly shot is used by the film makers to give the audience an idea of the turmoil that is going inside the character’s heart. A Zoom shot can highlight the expressions of the person on his face. The static shot brings out the whole essence of the shot as the still camera helps the viewers concentrate on the scene as well as each of the actors present in the frame. High and low angles in the world of cinema are used to denote strong and weak characters aptly. The Dutch angle or Dutch tilt is used to showcase the stress and agony in the character’s mind. Point of View is used when the film makers want to narrate the story through a specific character thus the camera is placed in such a manner that things get revealed to the viewers at the same time as the character being talked about. The level angle is used when the two characters are talking face to face.
In my opinion Camera makes the world of films a wonderful place to come and relax when you want to take a break from the daily chores of life. The best thing is that the entire cast of the project gets to live a different life for the span of time needed to finish the filming of the cinematic piece.
