Imposing the lockdown again can prove disastrous for the Entertainment industry?


The entertainment industry includes Cinema, Television, Radio, theatre and Music. The first lockdown was full of new rules and regulations and restrictions that no one was aware of. The first phase of Corona virus and lockdown wasn’t fruitful as far as the earning is considered for all the aspects of the showbiz.   Another lockdown will be even more disastrous for Bollywood, Television and Music industries alike.

The entertainment industry has gotten used to functioning amidst all the restrictions. Big budget films like 83 and Soorayvanshi has already suffered losses due to postponement in the release of the films. The small budget movies took advantage of the boon of the OTT platform due to the lockdown situation. These films could reach to the international market through mediums like Netflix and Amazon Prime.

Though the authorities related to the Entertainment industry trying to convince the audience that the theatres are safe for them and they could come to watch their favorite films on the Silver screen. The cinema halls are also giving offers to attract viewers but the psychological mindset of the people is not allowing them to come. There are two major factors responsible for this response namely the Corona Virus is spreading again in the country. The second point is that although time has passed no one has forgotten the death of Sushant Singh Rajput .

Bollywood recently experimented with releasing movies like Mumbai Saga and Saina in theatres but both of these movies could not perform well at the Box –office. Mumbai Saga was made with the budget of 50 crores but the total collection it could manage is 16.53 crores. Saina earned only 1.16 crores. Every Industry is facing financial problems even now and it is a long wait for everyone before the world goes to the normal mode again fully free from the pandemic.
