Cinema majorly constitutes of Drama and Emotions. The filmmakers play with these two elements and more to come up with the end product AKA the film. The Indian audience craves for drama and an emotional connect with the film so that it remains with them for a while after people have left the theatres. The film wants to attract the audiences using the nostalgia factor only.
Reasons 83 underperformed at the Box office are as follows:
Though the 83 world-cup win was a huge deal for India but the young audience could not relate to the film and the older generation who actually was present to witness the real event found nothing new in the film.
The high price of the tickets of film made impossible for audiences to watch the movie on the big screen. Selling more tickets at less price is more advisable for the success of the film in Theatres.
Recovering the huge budget of 270 crores was very difficult looking at emergence of the third wave. 150 crores is deficit the movie still needs to recover. The budget could have been curtailed owing to the change of release dates.
The lack of promotions for the film. Kabir khan thought that the Euphoria that the film creates would be enough but the audience wasn’t aware of such a film being released. There were no promotions in Punjab. Kabir khan should have taken care of promotions in Punjab as it is the birthplace of the legend Kapil Dev.
The film takes the form of a documentary. The movie should also concentrate on the process of winning the 83 world-cup and the entire team that made it possible for the historical win. Knowing about each player of the team could have been a more emotionally satisfying movie.
